Engine is a 1990 mercruiser 5.7 260 with a rochester 4bbl. Long story short I thought the needle and seat was bad as the carb kept flooding out with fuel, after rebuilding the carb the problem persisted. Today I spliced a tee into the feed line from the fuel pump to the carb and measured the fuel pressure. I am getting 13.5 psi at idle and a little over 14 at 1800 rpm. I figure the excessive fuel pressure is pushing the needle open and causing my flooding condition. What would cause this excessive fuel pressure from an oem mercruiser fuel pump? Aside from adding a regulator, how would I bring it back within spec?
