Bravo three knocking in neutral

I am looking a at purchasing a 2000 sea ray 260 w merc 454 and bravo 3 with 150 hours. The drive appears to be making a knocking sound in neutral and it goes away in gear. I had a very well respected surveyor look at it and he didn't believe it was a issue the way it ran. We pulled the drive and the gimbal and unjointed look fine.

Ayuh,... Sounds like yer options are buy it, knowin' it might need a new drive, or walk away now,...

The mechanic adjusted the shift cable and the noise went away.
