Have 1985 Chris-Craft Scorpion 169 with a Mercruiser 3.0L 140hp 4cyl...
fuel connection has stripped threads on carb. Numbers on carb plate are 1389-8490
Can I order just the top or do I need the whole carb? Source?
Thanks!

I'm guessing it will be the whole carb, unless there is enough material to use a helicoil which I doubt, but a helicoil setup will probably cost as much as another carb.

Thanks for the advice, All. Looking around for a used carb off a bad engine. Interesting solution, Stony. I'm not opposed to a dirty fix, that extends my budget! Prices for this carb are wildly varied - from $30 to over $700! Cray-zee. Need to get back in operation...

LOL, had a rust hole in the bottom of the fuel bowl of my lawn tractor, so used JB for a temporary fix, six years ago.... With a new carb at half the value of a 28 year old boat, why not? ;)

I have the carb you need, just swapped my engine. PM me, parting old engine out.
