Hey all, I have been lurking around the forums for a few weeks. I have a 96 Stingray 556ZP with the 3.0 Merc. I noticed some wires hanging around my alternator that are not connected. I am guessing they should be. Can anyone give me an idea on them. I am thinking the black one is a ground. Not sure on the red with blue stripe. I appreciate any and all input!

the red wire connects to the other side of the regulator opposite the purple

the black connects to the ground stud, (bottom in the photo, port side on your boat)

Should be wired like this from the harness.

Appreciate the input, that helps a ton! Any idea what having these two wires disconnected could do?

I just installed a 2nd battery on a 1-2-ALL switch and was getting some odd electrical issues out on the water. This is what caused me to look things over and noticed those two wires disconnected. It was almost as if I was having blips of power loss which was causing the boat to run funny, my only other thought is that I had to replace the belts last night and possibly threw the timing off, I am new to boats so I appreciate all the input!

Hook it up like it should be and see what happens.
