Morse shifter replacement

Hi All,
I have a 1990 Thompson with a Mercruiser I/O 165 HP. The Morse shifter is a side mount, with tilt and trim. The actual shifter has seen better days. I am trying to find a replacement. I can get a UFlex B184M but it only has 3 wires. Can this be adapted to fit the old 5-wire application?

Cheers, Jim

Re: Morse shifter replacement

Post a picture of your old control. 5 wires doesn't sound right.

3 wires in the new control doesn't make sense either. you need 2 wires for a neutral safety switch, and 4 wires for trim and tilt. 3 wires for tilt would eliminate your trim limit switch.

Hi Don,
Here are a couple of pics. Hope this shows enough detail.

I think you are looking at the wrong Uflex for an IO, the one you posted is probably for an outboard that doesn't have trim and tilt.

Are you able to make any sense of the 5 wires as opposed to the 3 write?

By the way, 2 of the wires are connected together at the same terminal.

I' don't know how the 5 wires are hooked up. You typically have 3 wires coming from the trim pump, then the wiring gets spliced and added to inside the control for 4 wires so the trim limit works. from the looks of the harness wire leaving your old unit, you have a 5 wire harness. Have no idea what it does or what things hook to.
