I'm having trouble getting it in reverse. Please bear with me on my boat illiteracy. It looks like there is a plate that kind of looks like a "Y" on the upper inner ransom plate.
And the lower shift cable slides thru an eyelet on this plate. On the open end of the "Y" part is a kill switch and when I try for reverse instead of sliding thru the eyelet, it pulls this plate and triggers the kill switch.
Does anyone know what I'm trying to describe here?
Thanks for taking the time to read this and helping.

That's very helpful. Thank you. could a lower shift cable adjustment help? Now that I understand how that works, its still having a hard time getting to fully engage in reverse.
Thanks.
