Hi everyone,

I was hoping someone would know the correct timing and dwell angle for a 1989 sea-ray 180 bow rider with a 4.3L V6 GM mercruiser motor? When I measured dwell angle it read 16 degrees. i have not check timing yet. If someone has the service manual that would be very helpful. I seem to get backfire out of carb and I'm thinking the timing is off!!! Any suggestion are appreciated as I am a novice. Thanks in advance for any help!

You don't have points, you should have a Thunderbolt IV electronic ignition. No points, no dwell.

What is the merc serial number of your engine, just to make sure.

Yes, you have electronic ignition, and yes you should check the timing just to make sure nothing has changed.

8? BTDC @ 650-700 rpm.

Service Manual #7

Don,
This info is very helpful! Thank you! I will keep you updated. I hope not to have anymore issues as the weather here in NC is getting nice and would love to get on the lake. Hopefully with all your help it won't be to far away! Thanks again.
