I was told by my mechanic that my port gear lube bottle is cracked and leaking. Is this an easy repair job for a newbie boater, or should I have this done professionally? Has anyone changed just the bottle, any tips and tricks? Appreciate the input.

1991 carver, merc 4.3 alpha one

Interesting, the Alpha I drives didn't use the square bottle, and neither did the Alpha I Gen II drives in 91 and 92. but, the reservoir can be replaced by disconnecting the hose from the bottom of the bottle, and unplugging the 2 wires.

So sounds like a pretty basic operation. I was afraid there might be a pressure sealed bottle. I think I can do that without screwing things up too bad lol
