Hello, quite a forum you guys have here!

Attempted search, but not too bright on computers.

How can this flywheel be removed? This is an '85 140HP Mercruiser.

Also will need to reassemble.

Thanks in advance, ed

Re: Mercruiser flywheel removal help

Take the engine out of the boat, remove the flywheel cover, remove the bolts holding the coupler and flywheel on, and pull the coupler and flywheel off the engine.

That was quick!

Have done everything listed, but flywheel is still on tight!

Are you saying that the nuts that hold the coupler also hold the flywheel?

Do I need some kind of puller?

And what about reassembly?

Do you know what the flywheel is? The coupler is bolted against the flywheel, so yes you have to remove the coupler nuts.

Ayuh,... Welcome Aboard,... It might be rusted to the crankshaft,...
A few taps with a dead-blow hammer oughta loosen it enough to pull it....

If he didn't take the coupler off, there is more than rust holding it on.

Thanks again for the information!

The coupler has been removed, but flywheel still on crank solid.

Doesn't look rusted, but will try yhe deadblow hammer.

So what you guys are saying, is that once the coupler has been removed, the flywheel should slide off the crank?

Have good flywheel on bad block, bad flywheel on good block. Must swap.

Yes, only rust or corrosion at that point.

Very good! Both flywheels "popped" right off.
