"SEA TURD" Mercruiser 165 Ignition Coil Test HEEEEEEELLLLLLLLLLLLLPPPPPPP!!!!

Ok I have named my 19'6" Larson the "Sea Turd for a reason..

I am tracing my no spark issue and currently am looking into a possible ignition coil problem.. I have a Napa coil that needs an external resistor. Since the boat has a resistor wire, I have no external resistor hooked up. CAN SOMEONE PLEASE TELL ME HOW TO TEST MY IGNITION COIL??? Can i test it with a multimeter?
I have 12V coming in through the positive wires when detached from the coil, but around 6V when i put the wires onto the terminal. Should this be? or should I have less than 12 to start? I think my coil is fried but
need to test somehow. Preferably disconnected from the boat

You can find the testing procedure for it in here
CDI Electronics Practical Outboard Ignition Troubleshooting

Id say you would get some voltage drop

I find if they are cracked they are generally going or gone bad
Have you tried swapping it out with the other coil (if that motor has one)?
