My boat overheats when driving slow for too long, but seems to do fine if i'm going fast. I figured i'd start with the impeller since I haven't replaced it since I bought the boat two years ago. My question is, How do I know which water pump kit to buy? I see multiple options, and I don't want to order the wrong thing. Can anyone tell me more about my boat engine?

I've attached a couple of photosIMG_0065.jpgIMG_0066.jpgIMG_0064.jpg

you want the short water pump base assy with your drive

the impeller and housings are all the same for mc-1, r, m/r, and alpha one drives

Ok, and thanks for your responses! Will I be able to specify the "short base assy" on the parts website?

Your engine is an 86, and if the engine and drive are a matched set, then the drive is also an 86. The OEM part number for the base kit you need is 46-44292A3 then just copy and paste that number into the iboats parts search and you come up with this.

Water Pump Base for Mercruiser 46-44292A3, GLM 12320 - Sierra 18-3420 - iboats

Stick with Sierra parts if you go aftermarket, forget Mallory, GLM, or the other cheaper junk.
