Noisy Starter

While winterizing my 3.0 Liter Mercruiser I noticed that the starter seems really loud while trying to start the engine. As soon as the engine starts the noise is gone and engine sounds fine at all different rpm's. Is this just a problem with the starter or is there something more serious going on?

Thanks

Re: Noisy Starter

Perhaps a YouTube video so we all can hear the noise . . . but I would agree with the thought of it being the starter singing its swan song.

Re: Noisy Starter

Possible bad starter, loose or broken mounting bolts or a bad ring gear on the flywheel.
