I was going to pull off the alternator belt on my 1972 120 hp Mercruiser to take it up to the local auto parts store and get a spare before this weekend's trip and it looks like you have to take a motor mount loose to get it out. Or is there something I am missing. Fred

Remove belt A if you have powersteering.
Remove bolts B, remove spacer C. DO NOT touch the bolts on the other side of the mount.
Buy 2 belts. Put one on the pulleys, wire tie the other one out of the way for future replacement if needed.
Also clean the pulleys if they are rusty. That rust acts like sand paper on belts and destroys them quickly.
