I need some assistance on my 96 4.3 setup.
Engine SN: 0F821477
Stern Unit PN: 5010181JP
Stern Model No: 6010000JS
SN: 0F678198

My PS is not working. In my attempt at troubleshooting I broke off the pressure hose fitting at the actuator, and will likely break off the return hose when I try to remove it. Rust has gotten them both. PB blaster soaking a day before removal attempt did not help.
I have found a fellow who has a new pressure and return hose, as well as a NOS PS actuator, which I may or may not need. He is selling the actuator for 250, which is much less than list, and my PN, as far as I can tell, is no longer available, so I am thinking about getting it if I drive all the way out there to buy the PS hoses. It appears that the PS hoses are also no longer available.
I have seen a pic of the actuator and it does look like what I currently have, but what I currently have does not match the picture in the parts diagram on the Mercury site.

Part numbers I *think* I need:
Actuator: 89645A33
Pressure hose: 96790
Return Hose: 9884339

Parts I'm looking at buying:
Pressure Hose: 32-8062216
Return: 32-80622142
Actuator: 806034A1
Hoses for 50 bucks each, and actuator for 250.

Can anyone say if these parts, through succession chain or whatever, will work on my boat?

I do have a PS cooler across the back of the engine. Attached is a pic of my current actuator.

Thanks,
Chris

The steel screw-in connection have been superseded by brass QC style connectors. All you need is the new hoses with the QC fittings and a couple of QC fittings for the PS unit. If you look up the same engine but a later year than yours you'll find all the bits you need. Try www.mercruiserparts.com and look up an engine with a starting serial number of 0W310000. Here's a link http://www.mercruiserparts.com/bam/s...1750/11681/330. That gets you the hoses (you need parts 8,9,10)... This one will get the 2 small fittings in the PS unit http://www.mercruiserparts.com/bam/s...0969/11210/200 (Although that's for a Bravo, but they use the same PS unit, and the Alpha part drawings aren't late enough yet... :D) (you need parts 5,6,7,8)

Just dig the old bits of connector out of the PS unit and you can reuse it.

I've done exactly this conversion a few times... Makes it so much easier to pull engines out too... :D

The same guy actually has an actuator with quick connects on it now, so I could go there easily. The hoses aren't quick connect. I will look at later years and see what I can come up with. I should be able to get an adapter for the pump also, to go quick-connect, right?

Thanks,
Chris

No adaptors, the return hose (with the QC) fits directly onto the cooler, and the pressure hose (with the QC) screws directly into the back of the pump.
