Flywheel replacement On a 454 Mercruiser?

I have a 1994 Sea Ray Express Cruiser with Merccruiser 454 and Bravo 1 Outdrive.
Shortly after i bought it the starter was lose and had a broken bolt and gear tooth looked a little rough changed starter out but believe flywheel is is damaged and new starter after a while sounds like its not engaging with flywheel correct

Do I need to replace with a mercrusier flywheel or can I use like a GM Flywheel?

You can use your flywheel, just replace the ring gear.
Just measure your flywheel and count the teeth. Here is an example of a 14" FW with 168 teeth.

Ayuh,... Like Don said, just change the Ring Gear,... No reason to change the flywheel....

If the starter bolts are staggered, it's the 14" ring gear,...
If the bolts are straight across, it's the 12" ring gear...

Ayuh,.... That's the only way I know of to get at the flywheel,...

It still has to come off, to swap on a ring gear...
