Converting OMC Steering & Shift to Alpha One- Help Needed

I'm restoring a 1988 Chaparral SX 1900.. I also have a 1985 Celebrity 180 as a donor boat. The Chap already has an alpha one drive on it. It has OMC steering and shifter. I want to make the Chap all Mercruiser. Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Is that the helm with the position indicator in it? If it is, I'd leave it.

The control will need Merc cables. But how are you shifting it now?

Before I began my restore...transom, stringers, etc... The Boat had been fitted with a Alpha one out-drive, using the OMC shifter.

Ayuh,.... Why are ya wantin' to change 'em, if they already work,..??

There's No difference in the helm, 'n only the cable ends might be different on the controller...

My local marine shop mechanic Strongly recommended I change it to all Mercruiser. I guess I would feel better if it's all Merc and resell value also.

There are/were a several independent boat manufacturers using controls on competitors engines.
I wouldn't loose any sleep over it!
