Hi, I am in the process of removing my Alpha One Gen II transom assembly. I am working on removing the power steering assembly, but I cannot get the steering cable out of the cylinder. I've loosened the nut and even banged against it to pull it out of the cylinder, but it seems stuck. I must be doing something wrong... any ideas. This is what it looks like.

Is there something else I should be loosening/disconnecting to get the cable out of there? The service manual just says to "disconnect the steering cable", but doesn't say how. What am I missing?

Thanks,
Jim

This picture shows the two pins... I removed the longer pin on the left... am I supposed to remove the shorter pin on the right as well?

Looks like you removed the engine mount bolts. I see both of the stainless pins on the power steering rack itself

Yes, the engine has been pulled and I'm now trying to remove the transom assembly to deal with a rotten transom. The picture in post #4 above shows the power steering unit before I removed the clevis pin on the left. Imagine the left pin has been removed (as it was, after the picture was taken), and the right pin is still in. Am I supposed to remove the right pin, too?

Sorry I wasn't clearer...

Thanks,
Jim

I figured I must have done something wrong.... but I didn't want to just start disassembling things. The service manual wasn't terribly clear about which pins to pull...

Thanks!
