MerCruiser Alpha One 3.0L acceleration/prop not catching?

We have a 2002 Maxum 1800 with a 4cyl 3.0l alpha cruiser...after driving around the lake for awhile the boat would basically not accelerate past idle, we tried to increase the throttle and the the prop would basically just spin at idle and not catch i guess you could say. I'm not the biggest boat buff in the world so i'm a little in the dark with this stuff so any and all help is appreciated, we're all wondering if its the transmission, a shear pin, etc...thanks

My first guess would be the prop hub or worst case the coupler.

Sounds like a spun hub in the prop to me.

Some props have a user replaceable hub (Flo-Torq), while other props a shop has to replace the hub.
