In the water, towing a young girl about 120lbs., engine sounds great, planed out, rpm's about 30, water temp good, oil pressure normal, speed about 25-30, water a little choppy, but not much. All of a sudden motor comes to a stop in the water, engine power still on. Shocked me, put the engine in neutral, shifted back to drive, still no power, the engine revved, but no forward power, back to neutral tried reverse, no reverse, but engine revved. When the boat is off, and put in gear, as you manually turn the prop you can hear a ticking noise about a foot up the prop area. Same as if you put it into neutral. Any ideas and how difficult and how much?

What engine, drive, and year are we working on.
Assuming its an Alpha type drive, with engine off. Put shifter into forward position and turn the prop counter clockwise. Does the clicking stop. If the prop still turns, look at the prop shaft and see if it's turning too. If the shaft is not turning, and only the prop is, the hub in the prop failed
