Broken Wires on Alternator

I have a 1987 Forester Phantom 17' with a Mercruiser 3.0 I/O. I was changing the belt and alternator bracket today and noticed that the purple wire coming from the alternator was broken completely off. Also, the purple/red wire is almost completely broken off, it is just hanging on by a few strands. The breaks are right at the alternator, so splicing the wires back together is not an option. What options do I have to fix this? I am hoping that there is somewhere else on the alternator that I can connect these wires to. Or do I need to have the alternator rebuilt?

Any help is appreciated.

Thank you!

Re: Broken Wires on Alternator

Ok, so after reading a bunch of posts on this site I believe that the purple wire is run through the ignition so that the alternator knows when the boat is turned on. So does having this wire disconnected never allow the alternator to charge the battery?
