mercruiser lock up

Ive read most of the threads about engine / outdrive lock ups and I am going to pull the outdrive this weekend. The engine seems to want to turn because when I try to start it, the steering wheel jerks to the right like the engine is turning it. I was just wondering if anyone knows if the steering wheel / outdrive shifting when you try to start the engine means a locked up outdrive, or something else. By the way it is a 1987 Chaparral with a 454 magnum mercruiser engine. Im not sure which outdrive but I will check when I get home. Any help would be appreciated. Also, anything I should know about droping the outdrive since I have never done that before??

if the engine trys to turn over and seems to lift up, The engine is hydrolocked ..pull the spark plugs and see if water comes out or they are wet
