Oh and one more thing - is adding a aluminium manifold to a cast iron head asking for trouble ?

Remember me ? :p
My original's been on there 26 years...

Do you have a magnet handy?
OP was asking about my Mani and how it's held up. Mine is aluminum, brackish water. OP's is cast/salt. As an aside, the manifolds on these engines aren't regular replacement items like on fwc engines--they don't see any fresh water normally so last a lot longer.

Thanks Mike, and all contributers.

I gues buying second ahdn is not an option in this case so gotta bite the bullet and deplete my wallet again.
I have never spent so much in 2 months unless on vacation.

I split the riser off the manifold today and I saw the rot in the riser but to me the manifold looked ok, but, our local engineer who I respect said to do the lot now and dont look backl as the manifold would surely be following the same fate of the riser.

It makes sense not to take chances but my budget is small. I've yet to even take her for a test drive.

Anyway, I gotta weight tings up. Even the notion of pulling the head for an inspection....maybe thats going too far though.

Interesting

Learnt something water can crawl back up the elbow into the motor

That is a facinating and well written article..

2 thing for you to consider.
1. You have an older 'end rise' elbow, so it has the vacuum break casting, and
2. Your engine camshaft doesn't have enough valve overlap to cause reversion.

My engine, on the other hand, has both problems.

Hi Chris,

I might not have that anymore as I am going with the aluminium manifold and riser now.

Wonder how I can find out if the riser I am getting has this anti resonance feature ?
