my gfs boat is having some issues
bayliner 18.5 with a 3,0.
the son uses the boat the most its a 2008.
they never have done a carb rebuild until last week.
they had issues of the motor starting on the muffs in the driveway, then dying...would not stay running..
finally took the carb off and to a guy who "rebuilt " it.
he reinstalled and vrooom it started perfect.
they took the boat the lake and moored it. then the next week, they used the boat and it started fine...but after about three starts and stops the motor wouldnt start again...towed back to the dock!
now it will start ONLY with the throttle way forward....but wont idle
the boat ran great last year after we timed and tuned it up( no carb work though) new plugs new filter , cap and rotor.
I dont think it had points...but cant remember right now
so we shouldnt need a new tune up this year
what steps should he be doing to figure this out now..
idle adjustment?? maybe??
re- rebuild the carb?
the carb mechanic said it has sugary stuff in it...(this was told to me) I dont know if that is crystaline sugar or varnish.
so the carb did need the rebuild!
i told him to chec the compression and spark anyway, because it ran fantastic at top end once he got it running
but its almost impossible to start now
