I'm considering purchasing a 1989 Wellcraft that has two 7.4 l Mercs. Engines have approx. 850hrs. Starboard motor has average of 120psi from compression test, lowest being 119psi and highest being 125psi. Port motor has average 125psi with lowest being 120psi and highest being 140psi. I can get more info later today as far as ser#, but just to get things rolling, should I stay the hell away from these motors?

Ayuh,... Welcome Aboard,...

They're startin' to get tired, but are a long ways from needin' a rebuild....

If a cylinder shows at 100 psi or less, it's time to rebuild 'em...
