Try Manual #1, page 3E-32, bottom right hand side... It's all there in black and white...

Why was the starter such an ordeal? I swapped mine two weekends ago in less than 30 minutes. It's actually easier on the Fords than it is on the GM's in most sterndrive applications in my experience.

The main problem was the amount of working room involved. Had to pull the dipstick tube, then there was the issue with clearing a very long motor mount stud.I removed it last Wednesday, and my whole upper body is still sore from contorting into a body position that worked, then trying to finagle the starter into position one handed since both hands wouldn't fit.
