remove the drive to access the gimbal housing,
( thats where the drive bolts on.),
the transom housing needs the engine and inner housing removed to remove the outer housing.
Simple answer to a simple question.... No... The engine rests on the inner transom plate, which is bolted to the gimbal housing... Also to access the nuts holding the inner transom plate to the gimbal housing you MUST remove the engine... If you need to replace the gimbal housing, pulling the engine is no big deal....
