New to me boat
Its a 1990 sylvan 188, it has a merc 3.0 engine and a replaced 120/140 1970 to 1977 outboard.
I found water in the motor cavity after first use. So I inspected bellows to find a hole in u joint bellow. Now the question is and im sure it is posted some where but i haven't found the thread yet. What special tools do i have to have to replace and put this back together. This will be my first time working on any part of a boat, so any info is very welcome. Ive viewed you tube video's but none of them show how to put it back together.

Thanks

Re: bellows issues on a pre-alpha merc outdrive

Can we start by asking you to use some punctuation. That post is very difficult to read and understand....

There are no special tools required to replace bellows on an Alpha One transom assembly... However, if you had water in the bellows you are probably going to need to replace the gimbal bearing, uni joints and clean the yoke at the front of the drive, which is an MC-1, and for some of those jobs you will need some special tools....

So we can understand fully what you need, please re-write the post, with the appropriate punctuation, so it can be understood....

Cheers,

Chris...

Do you have acess to a manual ? Thier are some online versions in the top 2 posts of this section ( they always stay their & have a wealth of useful info. )

Also this site offers some procedures to give you an idea of wahts involved http://www.mercstuff.com/howdoi.htm

Yes, thank you... And it's so much easier to read... :)

For the yoke removal you'll need the retainer ring spanner, and for the gimbal bearing you'll need a 3 jaw bearing puller...
