I have a 1987 Wellcraft with a 260 mercruiser 5.7
I have a Arco 60065 alternator, when I umbolted the original (motorola maybe?) alternator I see it has 4 wires, a thick black wire, a thick orange wire and two thin wires undershrink wrap and bullet connectors.
I assumed that I would place the thick orange wire to the "B" lug and the thick black wire to the "E" lug and the (EXC) and sense wires with the bullet connectors are pretty self explaintory but before I did it I performed a search on this forum and found this post where this guy did exactly what I am about to do and it seems he roasted his alternator

Now I know he could have had a short in his wiring harness or he recieved a defective alternatior, but to be safe I figured I would start my own post and ask you experts.
