Went to winterize new boat for the first times. Sems to look like the last person who did it broke the brass plug off in the standoff from the engine block. Has anyone ever removed the standoff before, and has anyone ever stapped one in an attempt to remove the standoff.

What engine are we working on? Be specific.

Those last people, breaking something and not telling anybody.

You should be able to replace the whole fitting and plug with out too much hassle.

Re: Mercruiser drain plug

All you have there is a brass 1/8"NPT pipe plug in a 1/4" to 1/8" brass reducer. Remove both and replace with a single 1/4"NPT brass pipe plug. They don't need to be so tight that they break, good and snug with some pipe dope (NOT teflon tape) on the plug should be fine.
