Purple/yellow wire for fuel pump, no post on the starter?

Hey guys, on the Mercruiser 4.3LX IVThunderbolt the wiring diagram say that the purple w/yellow strip wire that runs from both the fuel pump and the oil pressure switch runs to the starboard post on the starter (opposite the solenoid post). On this starter, there is no 3rd post, only the main and solenoid. Currently the said purple/y wire is just not connected, but the re is a wire there and definitely looks to be apart of the original harness. What do I do?

The motor isn't starting, the pump does however power on while cranking (seems sporadic though), it acts as though it's starving for fuel even when it did run. Also, the audio alert system was disconnected I noticed....I have it reconnected how it should be now.

I need guidance please.View attachment 118912

Automotive starters don't have that terminal, or you have a cheap aftermarket starter that the makers just don't understand.

Ayuh,.... Get ridda the Car starter, 'n put a Marine starter on it...

Considerin' the fuel pump gets it's power, while crankin' the starter from that missing terminal, it's hard to believe it's pumpin' at all...
I guess it might be gettin' power after the oil pressure comes up, from that power supply...

Is this a Carbed motor,..?? Which carb,..??

I have a newer starter off a Merc 140, can I use that for now? Obviously I should just get the right one and will, but for now is it better to keep the one that's on it or put the one off the 140 on?

I plan to, the one I had already from the 140 won't work to I'll just have to buy one. I did run that same wire over to the + on the coil and it's running pretty good, but it's surging allot.

Hey guys, on the Mercruiser 4.3LX IVThunderbolt ...

4 barrel Weber carb... The dribblers... Yukkkk... Most people with those find that they need to install an outboard style fuel primer bowl in the line because the carb dribbles after shut down and is dry (and the engine flooded) the next time you want to start it.....

Chris - that's not something you are recommending someone do though, right?

Talk to Mercury (or a carby 'specialist') and they will tell you it doesn't happen!

Not really sure why it is doing this, but i plan to figure it out sometime in the near future. It drives me nuts! I may just replace the darn thing. Any insight ?? I dont know if it has any Welch plugs like a Quadra-junk. Ive never had it off. If we throw anchor for more than an hour, its empty and flooded with no external leaks. Sorry o/p guess im highjacking.:)

Might want to start a new thread of your own instead of hijacking Leedangers post about fuel pump wiring to discuss your leaking carb problem.
