Hi,

My cable based steering is frozen. WHile I am replacing I thought I would install a hydraulic system like my big boat (better for auto-pilot). Here is the question. It looks like there are two approaches. One is to use the hydraulic cylinder to activate the power steering, the other would be to pull the whole power steering mechanism and use the hydraulic ram to directly turn the outdrive tiller. I generally prefer simplicity so am inclined towards the latter. Do I really need power assist? THis is for an alpha gen1 with v8 engine driving a 5000 lb deep v boat.
