3.0L Mercruiser Alternator Belt

Belt sheared. Cross-referenced the part number on the sheared belt. Wife threw the old belt away so I don't have the orginal number on the belt. Got the new belt in the mail and it doesn't appear long enough. Only 40" long. Old belt seemed much longer.

Any ideas what kind of belt that I need to purchase. Part number would be great.

To get the proper belt, we need an engine serial number. The belts have changed many times since the early 70's
