what is this bottle

I know its probably a dump question, but I just bought a 1991 Sea Ray with 7.4 454 mercruiser with the bravo 1 outdrive. There is a clear bottle mounted on the back wall of the boat on the port side of the boat behind the motor. There is nothing in the bottle now. I will try to get a pic of it tommorrow.

If it's a fresh water cooled engine, it may be a coolant container. Is there a small black hose running from it to the heat exchanger? It would be a strange place to mount it, though.

My guess would have been drive lube bottle.. And if it's empty, that's not a good sign...

Why don't you post a picture of the bottle so we can see what you are looking at?

I'm pretty sure it is the lower unit lube oil.

Gear lube resevoir.Not a good sign if it's empty.
