I have a 1998 Mercruiser 3.0 Litre. From looking on here and other research i think the norm is drain the oil via the dipstick. I was curious where the actual oil drain plug is?

And secondly if it?s in a reachable area has anyone ever installed one of those hoses that you pull out the bilge drain hole and drain oil that way?

Thanks!

On my Stingray with 3.0LX and Alpha one I can almost fit my entire upper torso below the motor ! Getting to the drain plug is not a problem, plenty of room to fit a container to catch the old oil. You should see a bolt at the bottom of the oil pan for draining the oil.
Some of the V angled motors can be a bear to get to the drain plug thought. I can certainly see how removing the old oil from the dip stick would make sense in those applications.
