voltmeter not reading

i just bought this boat its a 2007 crownline 4.3 mercruiser, 7 hours. i took it out this weekend and volt meter not reading. any ideas before i take a look at it. just want to see if you guys might pin point. thanks

not reading anything? check the connections at the back of the gauge .either that or someone stole the battery out of it.

ok thanks. it has battery. started and ran fine. just nothing showing.

the gauge need a 12v feed and a ground. check under dash for anything loose or corroded

i will check that first. i also have a red and black wire at top of engine not hooked to any thing. i assume they should be. any ideas.

whats not working is the easiest way to tell. trim, bilge pumps, electronics, accessories.

It's very easy to check.
If your other gauges are working, you either have a bad gauge, or the 2 wires going to it are bad. Check with a DVM.
