I recently bought a Bayliner Capri 175, 1999 with a 135hp, 3.0L Mercuiser. The alternator belt is squealing, it is very old and the alternator is tightened to the max. I need to replace the belt, it appears to be thread through the engine mounts though.

What is the best way to remove the belt? I know the balance of the engine is important, so I really don't want to unbolt the mounts, there has to be a way.

Seloc Marine says it needs to be done, but doesn't explain how, no pictures, nothing!

Re: 1999 3.0l Mercruiser belt change

On my 1993 modelthere is a piece of the mount that removes. I took a measurment before and after to make sure my engine didnt sag when the bolt came out. I would be willing to bet that the proper way is to support the engine while the piece is removed.

Also i installed a spare and zip tied it to the front of the motor away fromm moving parts. Now, the next time I can just cut the old belt and zip ties, then presto new belt.
