First boat - inlaw freebee. Took the boat to a local dealer for a repair estimate. They got the engine to start. Engine starts first try now and idles nicely. Oil pressure is okay at idle. However, when the engine is throttled up the oil filter seal blows; oil goes everywhere. Have repeated this process 5 times with the same result. Currenly out $400 for this diagnosis. Per the dealer, the boat is ready to troll all day long. They showed no interest in continuing to work on the boat. Mechanic said possibly the check valve in the oil pump is bad. I have the time and means to pull the engine. Does anyone have an idea of what would cause the oil pressure to be so high? (Seal between filter and engine block is where the failure occurs).

Brother-in-law ran the boat for multiple seasons and it always performed well. He stated the "oil filter failure" occured on him after he had pulled the boat out of winter storage. He then parked it for 4 years.

Everything else on the boat checks out okay. Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions you can provide.

Sounds like to me the pressure relief valve in the oil pump went bad. Do you have a oil gage? If so does it just keep on climbing as you give it gas? If so it is definitely the oil pump valve.
