I'm planning on removing the engine from my boat.
MY question is what do you guys use to lift the engine out.
I have a 26 FT Hourston Glascraft with the AQ 260 engine
With the boat on the trailer the engine needs to be lifted at least 7 FT up off
the ground to clear the side gunnel. Your regular cherry picker won't work on this application
Any input would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers.

If in a garage with exposed rafters you can build a hoist with a chain fall or heavy duty winch. I use landscape timbers both horizontal and verticle to the concrete floor to support the excess weight. Outside I used a tractor with backhoe or a forklift. My one friend welded up a long towtruck like boom on the back of his old pickup looked like Mater from the movie cars. Or see if you have any friends with an old tow truck with a long boom you could rent for a hour or so. If you do your bell housing and motor mount removial ahead of time , you could have it pulled in two minutes buy a local towtruck driver.

I pulled a 4.3L in the garage with a cherry picker.

made it a few years ago. i guess i must fall under bubba1235's hobby classification. i just figured when i made it that it'd get used more then once. that's my second engine pull...
i expect i'll use it again too..

A friend with a backhoe makes it easy.

Check with your local boat shops, I have removed engines for people many times. They get everything apart, trailer boat in to us, we lift it with the hoist, move the boat out of the way and set the engine down in their truck. Usually 1/2 to 1 hour labor. depending on the boat.
