change fluid in the power trim/tilt unit

I would like to change the hydraulic fluid to the tilt/trim system of my mercruiser i/o. I believe I need to drain the old fluid before I can put new fluid in. Is there a proper procedure for this action. Thank you.

Several places sell a small cylinder style pump. Put the hose in the reservoir, pull the handle back, and it sucks up ~ 1 pint of fluid. Put hose in another container, push handle in to expel fluid. $7-$15, metal or plastic.

You just won't believe the differences in trim pumps used back in the 60's to what we have today, and all the variations in between.
