My 2000 Mercruiser overheated (thanks to the raw water pump bearings - not the impeller!) and since has developed an oil leak from the hose at the top end of the remote oil filter. What is the problem with removal of the remote oil filter adaptor on the block and applying the oil filter directly to the block? The hoses are EXPENSIVE - not that they won't be replaced this winter but looking for a quick fix so I be back out this weeknd.

Ayuh,... It don't matter whether you use the remote filter, or a block mounted filter,...
As long as you Do use a filter...

Understood. Just didn't know if it would effect pressure, etc.
Trying new seals on the remote adaptor to the block first. Hoping it's not $200 worth of hoses and something simple as $7 worth of seals.

Any good hydraulic hose shop can repair your hoses for pennies...not $200

Yeah. Most Napa Auto Parts stores do Aeroquip hoses to your specifications.

You can take them your old hoses and they'll make them up for you.

While they're not exactly cheap.....it's always less expensive than the OEM hoses.
