I need to change the oil on my 1988 Regal, which has a GM/Mercruiser 4.3 l V6. Anyone know how to figure out which automotive oil filters will fit? I bought one for a 1988 Chevy Astro and it doesn't look right.

I know on my 99 4.3 I use the same one that would fit a 99 S-10 blazer with a 4.3l. I use Wix-51036, however that appears to be the same one that would fit an Astro van. It works in my '99.
Thanks. Why WIX? This is the first I've heard of that brand and it looks like they're a little harder to get (e.g., Pep Boys doesn't have them) than Fram or Purolator. Do you think WIX makes a better filter?
WIX and NAPA Gold filters are identical, so you can get what you are looking for at any local NAPA Auto Parts store. Simply drop the first digit off of the WIX part number for the corresponding NAPA part number. WIX 51036 equals a NAPA 1036. If you cut open a FRAM and a WIX/NAPA you'll see a big difference in the quality between the two. With regular oil and filter changes, either one will protect your engine.
