Manual or electric fuel pump? Mercruiser 4.3

Hey all. I recently replaced a 2 bbl carb and intake with the edelbrock performer series 4bbl on my 4.3l Mercruiser. I have had it out 3 times and it did well. The other day I filled up the tank (it puked out the vent on the side of the boat) and when I took it out that day it surged on me quite a bit, but only after a few minutes of 3/4 throttle. I noticed the fuel filter was about empty (it's see through), but after I would throttle down it would fill back up. Could this be a venting issue in the tank? Or do I need to go with a electric pump? It does have a newer holley manual pump on her now.

Thanks for the advice

Ayuh,... Welcome Aboard,.... Yer alittle late for this party....

I'm thinkin' he's already cleaned the crud outa his tank by now,...

No reason he'd need an electric fuel pump on His motor....

Btw,... Please don't be postin' in the archives... like the big blue banner asks....
