What year did Mercruiser start using serpentine belt

for the 5.7? I have a 92 boat w/ a 98 motor & my buddy has a 95 5.7 w/ the vee belts

I think it was sometime in '96. There is probably a specific serial number break-in. My 5.7L was made in Sept '96, and has the serpentine belt.
