I need to know what kind of paint and primers I need to restore my out drive, it was moored for three years and has lots of chips in the multiple layers of old paint and some pits due to corrosion. I want to take it down to bare metal and start from there. Can you buy Mercury paint and primer?

Get some good primer made for aluminum - (zinc chromate I believe? ), and then top coat it with Rustoleum black. You can buy the Mercruiser black spray paint, but it will cost a lot more than the Rustoleum and not work any better.

I too agree. I just repainted my Bravo 3 and it looks like it did when it was new. Minus the emblems of course.

Zinc Chromate is very nasty to inhale. (burns in the lungs for days later. Don't ask) Wear good respirator. Gloss Black.
