hi everyone well this is the first inboard i have owned and it is a 260 mercruiser, well I was winterizing i noticiced a switch that almost looks like a micro switch on the linkage to the shift and throttle bracket right behind the carb now, with the engine running if you actuate this switch it kills the motor now would anyone know exactly what this is for when you move the lever into gear it does not move , looks like it would work in forward and reverse, I have heard of a switch that kills the motor just for a half second when going into gear to take the load off of the gears when they are engaging but the lobes on the piece has too much dwell time guess you could call it , this is not the case with this ...any ideas???? thanks

Your talking about the shift interrupt switch. And yes you do understand most of it. Look at Bear's link and maybe it will help you more.
