I have a 2003 mercruiser mpi with the 555 ecm.Somehow my distributor is broken where the cap screws down to the distributor the screw flange is broken off so i only have 1 screw holding my cap on.

Here is my question since this distributor does nothing but supply power to my spark plugs in other words the only wires that are used are the coil plug and spark plug connections. There is some sort of module but that is unused.

The mercruiser distributor is like $750
A brand new distributor with cap and rotor is $50 off ebay but fits a 5.7 vortec truck not marine

Is there any difference except price.

I dont beleive there is i looked at the one on my 98 chevy truck and they look identical

Question #2 is it normal while on the muffs when you rev the engine to hit a rev limiter around 3700 rpm and smartcraft gauge reads over rev limit. never did this on water winds right up to 5000 rpm at least last season it did.

1 post a pic of your dist
2 Never go above 1200 on a hose, you will damage the water pump if the flow is insufficiant

Why rev that high in neutral? Bad for the engine. Engine prolly knows it's in neutral and will not go above 3700. When in gear, it will go all the way. Regardless, winding an engine up to full throttle with no load is not good for it.
