Just bought a 1972 sea ray that has the straight 6 mercruiser in it. The boat didnt come with a manual. So im curious if anyone could tell me if it holds 5 or 6 quarts. Thanks a lot

Put in 4, run it and recheck and fill to the full mark on the dipstick. 5 is typical. DO NOT overfill.

Only thing I can add to this is throw 4 qts in it and put the boat in the water and check it. You need the boat not necessarily level but as to how it sits naturally in the water.
If you live on a hill and the boats on a trailer with the tounge jacked all the way up.... I'm sure you can see where I'm going with this....

Re: mercruiser inline 6 oil capacity

thanks for the replies. i put 5 quarts in and i still am not getting any readings on the dipstick. im thinking it may have the wrong length dip stick in it. it just doesnt seem to go in right and it barely makes it into the pan. Does anybody by chance have a mercruiser straight six that they could get me a measurement of there dip stick for me if so it would be greatly appreciated.
thanks
jake
