I repowered in 2006 (Volvo-Penta 5.7l gi-f) with dps outdrive. This engine comes with an integral fuel filter bracket that is part of the fuel pump assembly. Being concerned about ethanol problems, I asked the mechanic if it would make sense to add a racor filter also. He told me at the time it would cause vapor lock problems due to the reduced pressure on the suction side. Recently, another mechanic has informed me Racor has come out with filters that can be used in this situation. (Maybe the high volume ones?) So My question is, can I put a racor before the stock filter? And has anyone actually done it with good results?

Yes, you can, I have been installing them for years with no problem.

There is no pressure on the suction side. There should be a slight vacuum, but not too much. A 10 micron filter will not cause a problem with the Volvo LP pumps.
