i have a 1993 chaparral with a 305 mercruiser and alpha 1 out drive. my question is what is the easiest way to get a frozen steering cable out of the power steering system. the boat has sat up for 2 years and the cable is ceased in the tube. the cable still moves freely when i loosen the nut from the collar. i have read other threads and most say to heat up the shaft. is there any way to remove the tube with the shaft still in because it is a really cramped area to swing a hammer. any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Loosen this nut, tap with hammer to release from the tapered pivot, remove nut, remove cable

Re: steering cable frozen alpha 1

Hello
I have a Mercruiser 260 with a cable problem like this. It too is in a tight space. I have taken this nut off and backed the cable nut off as far as the grease zurk. How do I now get this to pull apart so I can get the cable out where I have room to heat the sleeve? Thanks for any help.
