Could someone please shed some light on timing a reverse rotation 350 cid. The timing tab on this engine is the same as the standard rotation. The book indicates 8 deg btdc Since this is a reverse rotation I am assuming that it is opposite side of 0 degrees from the standard rotation. Problem is when I get to that point with the timing light it runs poorly. It seems to run best when the mark is about 1 1/2 inches from the zero.

I first thought I might have stabed the distributor one tooth off but I checked it again and it's still is happier with the mark popping that distance away. Only other thing I can think of is that the harmonic balancer may have slipped a bit, but I don't want to go there yet. Am I missing something?

They do use the same tab, TDC is the same on either direction engine.
You will be setting your timing BELOW the "0?" TDC mark.
